Pioneer High Football Makes History with CIF Titles, Launches Fundraiser for Championship Rings

The Pioneer High School football team made history in the fall 2024 season, taking home the school’s first-ever CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) title, followed by a regional title – an achievement that has ignited school spirit and set the stage for future generations of athletic excellence.

While the team fell to Balboa High School in the CIF State Championship game on Dec. 14, their journey united the school and community in a milestone season.

To commemorate this achievement, Pioneer High’s football team is raising funds for championship rings, a lasting tribute to their historic season. Contributions can be made through the school’s dedicated fundraising page or directly in Pioneer’s Business & Activities Office.

“Our community’s generous contributions will ensure that every student-athlete on the team, regardless of financial circumstances, has the opportunity to receive a championship ring commemorating this historic run,” Principal Mary Chapman said. “By supporting these efforts, we are not only celebrating our current champions, but also investing in the lasting legacy of Pioneer High athletics and creating memories these young athletes will cherish for a lifetime.”

Pioneer High students, staff, alumni, and community members showed unwavering support throughout the team’s post-season run, with many even staying for each ceremonial postgame lighting of the torch, symbolizing athletic and academic wins.

“We were really able to build a sense of community around the team,” Assistant Principal Marvin Jacobo said. “The excitement spread beyond campus – through social media, conversations in the neighborhood, and alumni reconnecting. It really took on a life and energy of its own.”

Chapman said that the football team’s success has inspired and encouraged all Pioneer High athletes and teams, reinforcing the belief that anything is possible with dedication and teamwork.
