Whittier Union’s Pioneer High School to Stage ‘Every 15 Minutes’ Program

WHAT:        Pioneer High School students will experience a powerful lesson on the dangers of impaired driving through the “Every 15 Minutes” program. This two-day event includes a simulated car crash, staged emergency response efforts, and dramatized student losses, offering a sobering look at the real-life consequences of driving under the influence. The program concludes with a mock funeral, reinforcing the lasting impact of impaired driving on individuals, families, and communities.

WHEN:        11 a.m., Tuesday, March 18 | 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19

WHERE:      Pioneer High School, 10800 Benavon St., Whittier

DETAILS:    On the first day of the program, students will witness a simulated car crash involving peers who are portrayed as “critically and fatally wounded,” along with an “injured” student arrested for driving under the influence. Throughout the day, select students will be removed from class to symbolize the statistic that every 15 minutes, someone in the U.S. loses their life due to an alcohol-related crash. The event concludes on day two with a mock funeral and school assembly, featuring a video recap of the staged accident.

 

“Every 15 Minutes” is a nationwide initiative designed to challenge high school juniors and seniors to consider the devastating and lasting consequences of impaired driving.
