Class of 2018 Graduations

Nearly 3,000 students from Whittier Union High School District’s five comprehensive high schools, two alternative high schools, adult school and transition program will conclude their high school careers with commencement ceremonies June 4-6.

 

Ceremony schedules are as follows:

Frontier High School
When: 6 p.m. Monday, June 4
Where: Whittier High School Vic Lopez Auditorium, 12417 Philadelphia St., Whittier
Details: 90 graduates; student speakers are Kyle Elwood, Daisy Escareno and Briana Rivera.

 

Transition Program
When: 7 p.m. Monday, June 4
Where: Harmony Center, 12907 Bailey St., Whittier
Details: 22 special education students ages 18-22

 

California High School
When: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5
Where: Sandra Sanchez Thorstenson Stadium, 9800 Mills Ave., Whittier
Details: 640 graduates; valedictorians are Kelly Clavel (Stanford – biomedical engineering) and Wendy Colin (UC Berkeley – environmental engineering). The salutatorians are Alphonso Diaz (UC Berkeley – environmental science); Jack Fitzgerald (US Air Force Academy – military and strategic studies); Edith Garcia (UC Irvine – political science); and Natalia Gonzalez (Cal Poly Pomona – business administration).

 

Whittier Adult School/Sierra Vista High School
When: 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5
Where: Whittier High School Vic Lopez Auditorium, 12417 Philadelphia St., Whittier
Details: 35 adult school graduates; 192 Sierra Vista graduates (23 are graduating with honors). Sierra Vista’s valedictorian is Marya Nunez, the salutatorian is Melissa Dietz and the student speaker is Jocelyn Alban. The Adult School’s student speaker is Geraldo Lara.

 

Santa Fe High School
When: 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 5
Where: Dick Torres Memorial Stadium, 10800 Benavon St., Whittier
Details: 583 graduates; valedictorian is Erich Martinez (UC Berkeley – immunology and pathogenesis). The salutatorians are Eric Gonzalez (UC Irvine – computer science and engineering); Karen Gonzalez (USC – biomedical engineering); and David Rodriguez-Sosa (UC Davis – computer science and engineering)

 

Whittier High School
When: 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6
Where: Dick Torres Memorial Stadium, 10800 Benavon St., Whittier
Details: 460 graduates; valedictorians are Analaura Amezquita (Stanford University), Annika Ancich (UCLA) and Yasmin Munoz (UCLA).

 

La Serna High School
When: 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 6
Where: Sandra Sanchez Thorstenson Stadium, 9800 Mills Ave., Whittier
Details: 630 graduates; valedictorians are Maya Delgado (Columbia University – chemistry); Kyle Lien (UCLA – biology); Narek Stepanian (UC Berkeley – physics); and Christen Tai (UCLA - biochemistry).

Pioneer High School
When: 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6
Where: Dick Torres Memorial Stadium, 10800 Benavon St., Whittier
Details: 325 graduates; valedictorian is Paola Benitez (UCLA – sociology) and the salutatorian is Alyssa Cayetano (UC San Diego – biomedical engineering).
