Superintendent's Message
October 2024
Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,
There is nothing more exciting than the first day of school; you can feel the excitement the moment you open the campus gates, and the wonderful gift of learning commences for another year. At Whittier Union, we do not take this gift for granted! From Freshman First Day to Graduation Night, our goal is to nurture our students to become lifelong learners, create strong bonds and friendships, and make incredible memories.
Already this year we have experienced the joy of watching our young female athletes compete for the first time in CIF-sanctioned flag football leagues, continuing the proud tradition of Whitter Union athletics. Our athletes have been looking forward to this level of competition for years, and they have embraced it with passion and glee. Congratulations to all our schools for completing their inaugural year!
Quite often, the positive impact our students make at Whittier Union continues to reverberate long past graduation. Consider the legacy left by Pioneer High School Class of 2012 graduate Domingo Perez, whose meticulously detailed collages adorn nearly a dozen classroom doors and have become a daily source of inspiration to current Titan students. Perez’s initiative and generous spirit are examples of how Whittier Union students and graduates love giving back to their schools and communities. Click HERE to read more about his story!
There is so much that is new this year: new students, new administrators, new sports and now, for community members unable to attend a Board of Trustees meeting, we are sending out monthly eblasts that provide highlights of actions taken during Board meetings.
In October, the Board shared the District’s flourishing student achievement data, held its first “sunshining social” with labor partners prior to the meeting, and approved a number of resolutions designed to drive student success. Click HERE to read this month’s Board Highlights.
As we look ahead to the holiday months, we anticipate many more success stories to come. Whether a student is attending a Whittier Union comprehensive, continuation, independent study, or adult school, they have access to educators and personnel who are invested in their future and prepared to take them to the next level as responsible and productive global citizens.
At Whittier Union, this is the way we “Achieve and Maintain Excellence.”
Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
