Superintendent's Message

May 2026

Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo

May has been a month filled with celebration, achievement and reflection across Whittier Union. Throughout the month, we proudly recognized the incredible accomplishments of our students and staff members, whose hard work, perseverance, and dedication continue to embody our District mission “To Achieve and Maintain Excellence.”

From the classroom and athletic fields to the arts and student leadership, our school communities came together to celebrate another successful year of learning, growth, and opportunity.

Across our campuses, senior activities have brought excitement and school pride to the forefront as the Class of 2026 prepares for graduation. Students participated in spirited Commitment Day celebrations, proudly sharing their post-secondary plans with classmates, staff, and families. Campuses also hosted awards ceremonies, senior sunsets, breakfasts, and other special traditions designed to recognize students for their accomplishments. These events reflect the culmination of a strong 2025-26 school year and honor the determination and resilience of our seniors as they prepare for their next chapter.

During the May Board of Trustees meeting, the District also had the privilege of recognizing a number of outstanding students and staff members for their dedication and contributions throughout the school year. The Board celebrated the 2025-26 Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, Exemplary Classified Staff, Teachers of the Year, National Board Certified Teachers, and this year’s retirees. We are grateful to each individual recognized for the impact they continue to make across our campuses and school communities. I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our retirees, whose years of service, hard work, and passion have helped shape generations of Whittier Union students. We wish each of them the very best as they begin this exciting new chapter.

As we head into the final days of the school year, we are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 during graduation ceremonies taking place Monday, June 1 through Wednesday, June 3. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 — we are incredibly proud of you and look forward to celebrating this special milestone together.

Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
Superintendent
