Superintendent's Message

October 2025

Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo

As we settle into the school year, it is inspiring to see the incredible momentum already building across Whittier Union. We are only two months in, and our students and staff are achieving great things in the classroom, on the field, and in our community.

October has been a month of celebration, connection, and pride for our District. We were especially proud to come together for our inaugural State of the District event on October 1, a true celebration of the people and partnerships that make Whittier Union an exceptional District.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn for her generous sponsorship and to the state and local elected officials who took time to join us that evening. A special thank-you also goes to the Whittier High Jazz Band, the California High Combined Choir, and our incredible student leaders from across the District, including members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, for lending their talents and voices to the program. To the families and community members who attended—thank you for continuing to uplift and inspire our schools. Whittier Union’s success is built on your unwavering support.

This month also brought exciting news from our campuses, as our comprehensive high schools ranked in the top 20% of public high schools nationwide, reflecting the academic excellence, commitment, and passion that define a Whittier Union education. Our District’s legacy of achievement extends beyond our high schools. Our Whittier Union Adult School continues to make remarkable strides, with its Plumbing Program recently recognized for rapid growth and student success. Across every campus, we are proud to offer a wide range of pathways that help students achieve their goals and prepare for bright futures.

As we move through the fall season, I know the Whittier Union community will continue to embody our Whatever It Takes spirit. Together, we will keep working toward our shared mission, “To Achieve and Maintain Excellence.”

Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
Superintendent
