Superintendent's Message

May 2025

Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo

As the 2024-25 school year draws to a close, it has been both meaningful and inspiring to see the many celebrations taking place across our campuses. From senior signing days and athletic championships to award ceremonies and year-end performances, this has truly been another remarkable year at Whittier Union.

In May, our comprehensive high schools hosted Senior Decision Days, commemorating the achievements of our seniors as they prepare for their next chapter – whether that be attending colleges and universities, joining trade programs or the armed forces, or entering the workforce. We are incredibly proud of everything our students have accomplished, and of the role Whittier Union has played in preparing them for a successful future.

This preparation is deeply rooted in our commitment to offering robust college and career readiness programs, including Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and the Puente Program. These initiatives provide students with invaluable resources to help them explore their post-secondary options, including college tours, career-themed workshops, social activities, and other useful tools. With two AVID National Demonstration Schools, Whittier Union continues to set a high standard for support as students make life-shaping decisions.

May also brought many opportunities to recognize the incredible people who make our mission possible. From National Teacher Appreciation Week and School Principals’ Day to Classified Employee Week, each celebration served as a reminder of the dedication, care, and excellence shown by every member of the Whittier Union team. Thank you for your continued commitment to doing Whatever It Takes to help our students reach new heights.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank our entire Whittier Union community for another successful school year. We look forward to honoring our Class of 2025 during lively commencement ceremonies, taking place Monday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 4, and to celebrating all they have achieved as they step boldly into the future.

Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
Superintendent
